FBCYICN – Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks

A Message to Members from Lorena

Dear Fed Members,

I am writing you to share some bitter-sweet news…..I just recently got engaged! The downside is that my fiancé lives in Nova Scotia, so once we hire our new permanent Executive Director I will be moving back east.

As some of you know, I grew up in care, I moved here from Nova Scotia almost 4 years ago and I have been involved in supporting the youth in care movement foralmost 15 years. I want each of you to know that despite the fact that I am moving away I will always be an advocate for youth in and from care. I am so proud at what we have been able to accomplish together. Each of you brings amazing ideas, talents, interests and awesomeness and deserves to be loved, respected and supported. I promise to continue to honour and fight for this.

I realize that the Fed has been going through a number of transitions but, like every family people grow, change and sometimes even move away. What is important to remember is what holds a family together — in the Fed’s case it is not blood but our collective desire to improve the lives of youth in and from care.

It has been an honor to have met each and every one of you. Your strength, courage and dedication is such an inspiration and I will cherish all of the wonderful memories you have been part of creating.

I will still be around for a few months and would love to hear from you before I go. If we don’t connect, you can find me on Facebook – just be patient because I don’t always check it regularly. I’ll also be flying back for the October SCM to visit with all of you:)

Wishing you all the best!

much love,
lorena
