Rights 2 Success

Rights 2 Success , a working partnership between FBCYICN and MCFD

Rights 2 Success (R2S) is a workshop about the rights of children and youth. It aims to empower young people to claim their rights, so that they can participate effectively in decisions that are made about them and advocate on their own behalf if their rights are not respected.

We partner with MCFD to offer adult and youth workshops about rights, participation and advocacy. R2S workshops are fun and interactive and they are co-facilitated by a youth and adult.

We also train youth and adults to become R2S facilitators so that they can lead these workshops in their community.

If you are interested in learning more about the R2S program or want to become a facilitator, talk to Shanti MacFronton, Rights Education Coordinator.

R2S History and Approach

R2S was developed by organizations that share a common role and responsibility to educate children and youth about their rights. R2S acknowledges what this community is already doing to support and promote children’s rights, and builds on those strengths using a common language and vision. It involves empowering young people to claim their rights, participate effectively in decisions that are made about them, and advocate on their own behalf if their rights are not respected.

Research shows that when young people learn about their rights there are many benefits:

  • increased self-esteem
  • helps in their protection as children know what they are entitled to
  • understanding that rights must come with respect for others
  • more sensitive to children of minority groups
  • more inclined to recognize how teachers and peers support them
  • increased rights-respecting attitudes and more socially responsible behaviour
