PROJECTS:

BC Child and Youth in Care Week: As of 2011, the government of British Columbia has proclaimed a week each year to honour young people in and from care–the first of its kind in Canada. Asked for by Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks youth members in 2009, the week is an opportunity to fight stigma and celebrate the diversity, accomplishments and resilience of young people in and from care. It is also an opportunity to highlight their unique needs, issues and ideas, and encourage our communities to take notice, learn from young people and stand in support with them.

Join us and celebrate our amazing young people in and from care during the Annual BC Child and Youth in Care Week (BCCYICW)! There are celebrations happening in communities all across the province and online!

Permanency Project:

Young people have identified the importance of staying connected to their families, especially their siblings, as one of their top issues at the 2007 YouthSpeak. To help address this issue of permanency, the Federation started the Permanency Project. We received funding from the BC Adoption & Permanency Trust Fund and partnered with First Call: BC Child & Youth Advocacy Coalition on this project. The main purpose  was to find out more about permanency, what is already being done to address it, and what needs to be done in order to better support it. The information collected during this project is summarized in this report: Belonging 4 Ever: Creating Permanency for Youth in and from Care and its two companion documents: Maintaining the Sibling Bond and Useful Permanency Resources.
