Position: Youth Activator - Youth Retreat 

Location: Remote, and In person at Cowichan Lake Centre, Cowichan Lake.

Summary: As peer-based* contractors, Youth Activators use their skills and lived expertise to support our programs and services. Youth Activators are generally focused on a specific program, project, or event.  This may include planning events and activities, facilitating workshops and hosting gatherings, and engaging peers and partners.   

We are currently looking for Youth Activators to help lead our Youth Retreat. Youth Retreats are a three-day event where young people meet other young people from care, have their voices heard, guide the Fed in the work we do, and most importantly have FUN and CONNECT with others!   

*Peer Based is defined as youth in and from care between the ages of 14 and 28. 

Compensation: $750.00 fee for service 

Schedule:  

Orientation 

  • Individual Check-In’s – 1 hour the week of March 24-28 
  • Full Day Virtual Orientation 1 – Saturday March 29 
  • Full Day Virtual Orientation 2 – Saturday April 12 
  • Individual Check-In’s – 1 hour the week of April 21-25 

Youth Retreat Prep, Youth Retreat and Debrief 

  • In Person Preparation – Thursday May 1 – preparation will happen at Retreat Location 
  • In Person Youth Retreat – Friday May 2 to Sunday May 4 
  • In Person Debrief – Monday May 5 will happen at Retreat Location 
  • Virtual Debrief – Friday May 9- 1 hour 

Travel: You will be required to travel to New Westminster for May 1 and will be supporting in person preparation, the retreat and a debrief from May 1 to May 5, at a location on the island just outside of Victoria. Travel expenses will be covered.

Qualifications: If you do not currently have the training qualifications outlined in the position description there will be an opportunity to complete self-directed training modules. All qualifications must be completed by April 18, 2025. Successful candidates must already have a clear CRC with a vulnerable sector check.

Position: Awake Overnight Support Staff 

Location:  Cowichan Lake Center, Lake Cowichan and Virtual Meetings for Orientation 

Summary: Awake Overnight Support Staff play a crucial role at our Youth Retreats—not only are you viewed as a role model but your presence and energy help to establish a safe and comfortable space for the participants. You are responsible for being available for support and for ensuring the participants are respecting the camp and each other from 8pm to 8am.   

Fee for Service: $600.00  

Schedule:  

  • Orientation: Viritual meeting on April 30 from 6-8PM
  • Overnight Shift: May 2 from 8:00PM to May 3 at 8:00AM
  • Overnight Shift: May 3 from 8:00PM to May 4 at 8:00AM
