"I was a Fed member while I was still a youth in care and was a recipient of the Dream Fund. I am now a practicing attorney in New York, after graduating from Harvard Law School last year. I would have never thought that I would be here today, and I thank the Fed for all of the support they have given me when I was struggling. Thank you all, and Merry Christmas. You are always on my mind, and I always wish I could do more."

Vancouver Fire and Radius Security

Our partnership with VFRS, a local fire protection and security company, began in 2017. While at first glance a youth-serving organization and a fire safety and security company might not seem like they have much in common, the opposite has proven true. The folks at VFRS believe that everyone has the right to a safe and secure future. In their own work, they encounter young people who don’t have access to the basic supports they need to succeed in the things they want to do. So VFRS is taking action. By donating their time and resources to the Fed, they make it possible for us to provide more supports and opportunities to youth in and from care.

One of VFRS’s first donations was specifically to Youth Retreats, because they recognized how retreats create space for youth to gain leadership and advocacy skills, build friendships and community, and provide the insight and knowledge that we rely on as an organization. In addition, VFRS have donated to the Fed’s bursaries, including the additional $2,000 National Fire and Safety Planners Education Bursary, which was awarded to youth in October 2018 and 2019. The staff have also given their time by volunteering on the Dream Fund Selection Committee and at the 2018 and 2019 Holiday Open House. They wanted to do more than give funds. They wanted to really understand the work that we do and the amazing youth we get to work with.

They donated $9,500 over our 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 fiscal years to the Dream Fund Bursary program and Youth Retreats program!

We’re excited to welcome Vancouver Fire and Radius Security into the Fed family, and to continue working together on our shared goal of supporting young people to achieve their dreams.

UBC Medicine Spring Gala

"The UBC Medicine Spring Gala is a celebration of the arts: a night where UBC medical students from all fours years and all four sites come together to showcase talents outside of the medical realm and enjoy the performances and artistry of their peers. The Spring Gala started in 1995 as a way to highlight the exceptional artistic talent among medical students and has been a highlight of the year ever since.

The Spring Gala is a non-profit production organized completely by students. The proceeds from each show go to one of the charities chosen by the medical student body. We are proud to support the Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks, a youth-driven, provincial organization that is dedicated to improving lives of young people in BC.

The UBC Medicine Spring Gala hopes to continue supporting the artistic talent among medical students and the exceptional work done by various local charities in making our communities safer and better places to live." ~Harjot Bedi, on behalf of UBC Medicine Gala Committee
